Facebook FREE :)

As I was logging onto my computer today I couldn't help but thinking how much time I waste on here! I mean seriously!! The invention of the computer is an amazing thing yet how many of us sit on here doing absolutely nothing when we could be doing something much much much more productive? It seems it's become a part of everyday life... Go to work-get on the computer (depending on job of course..), go home-get on the computer... I mean when's the last time you can remember NOT getting on the computer? or at least online. Now we all have our cell phones and ipods w/internet ON them.. That way if our schedule really IS that busy, we can get online on the go. What the heck. What is our world coming to? I bet none of us could go a day w/o getting online. Most of us HAVE to get online for work or for school. And what about facebook/myspace? Do we REALLY need to get on there and check what's going on EVERY 5 minutes? Seriously how do we make this stop? One day when all of us are old, are grandkids are gonna say "So gma/gpa, What did you guys do in your spare time?" And what are we going to say? Oh we sat on facebook all day and talked to our friends and found out the latest gossip on everything (ok seriously.. We all know that's the real reason why everyone gets on facebook. You can find out a TON about anyone you want. It's ridiculous) Are we even going to remember that we spent all our time on facebook? And even if we do.. Are we going to remember what people said to us on facebook? I mean really what's the point? It's not making us better people. It's not changing the world (ok yes.. something's do.. e.g. groups that are for a certain cause.. Like the Prop 102 for AZ..... That seemed to have get a lot of people doing something for the gay marriage law..) But other than things like that.. Is it REALLY worth our time? Life is too short to be wasting away on facebook, myspace, and any other website for that matter. Sure get on once in a while and see what's going on, But we REALLY don't need to be on it alllll throughout the day. I googled ways to stay OFF the computer and stop watching tv (aka how to start being productive by stopping those habits of logging onto facebook). Of course first thing I thought of is you have to have Discipline. According to President Riggs.. "Discipline is doing what you don't want to do, when you don't want to do it, because you know you should." We all know we SHOULD get off facebook and do something productive. So let's get off facebook even when we don't want to because we know we should. Ok next.. make goals! If you have to, say I won't get on facebook until AFTER I have finished my homework. You're basically making rules for yourself, but, in this case, you're getting a reward for doing your homework. Make a goal to stay off facebook for a couple days and see how much more productive those days are rather than the ones that are spent on fb. Try to set a goal to only go on facebook for an hr (or maybe 2 or 3 if you're an all day facebooker..) and then the rest of the day must be spent doing something else (reading, hw, work, ect.) Next, FIND stuff to do. You're not really doing ANYTHING on facebook besides waiting there for someone to talk to you. DO SOMETHING. Here's a whole long list of stuff you can do:
  • Serve someone.
  • Teach someone something you know.
  • Read a book.
  • Do your to-do list that you've had for a year.
  • Exercise.
  • Take a walk and appreciate the beauty of this world.
  • Play a game with a friend or your family. (not wii/playstation/xbox/computer games either!!)
  • Get to know your family/friends better.
  • Go to the park
  • Write a letter to a friend/family member (email does not count!!)
  • Call your mom, dad, sisters, brothers, grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, cousins (call everyone you know just to say hi and that you're thinking of them. See how their life is. You never know how much your phone call could've made a difference in that persons life.)
  • Write in a journal
  • Be by yourself.. Quiet time.. Just to think.
  • Write a story
  • Draw a picture.
  • Join a sport
  • Learn a language
  • Learn to play an instrument
  • Practice that instrument
  • Sing. (Yup that's it. just sing. Grab a hairbrush and start dancing around like you're 5 and don't have a care in the world)
  • Scrapbook
  • Sew
  • Clean (I know.. cleaning isn't fun. Well it IS when you have the right attitude. Normally I throw on some music, grab the vacuum, Dance around the living room while singing loud and obnoxiously. It really is some of the funnest times I've had. ha.)
  • Organize (yes there is a diff between organizing and cleaning! I absolutely LOVE organizing but not cleaning. ha.)
  • Sit on your backporch and just enjoy being alive.
  • Take pictures (of you, the people you know, your house, your town/city.. everything! one day you're not going to remember what everything looked like!)
  • Go biking, skating, swimming, rollerblading, hiking, ect
  • Cook/Bake
  • Paint/Draw (even if you're not good.. It's still fun!)
  • Ask your grandparents (or even parents!) All about their childhood and life and then WRITE IT DOWN!!! You never know when you're going to need those stories. I'm sure you're kids, grandkids.. and everyone else who comes after you will want to hear all of those stories too!
  • Read newspapers, magazines.. Know what's going on in the world. (Not just the celeb world either!)
  • Wash your car
  • Give your dog a bath
  • Set goals. Then, accomplish them.
  • Make a bucket list.
  • Do things on your bucket list.
  • Go fishing
  • Go to a museum
  • Take a drive (you don't need a destination. Just drive.)
  • Dance. Make up the most ridiculous dance and just have fun with it.
  • Re-arrange a room! (It's quite fun actually.)
  • Make a movie/video (I prefer music videos.. They're SUPER fun and easier to come up with idea than just a random movie. ha)
  • Try something new.
I think that's about all I can think of... If you have more ideas PLEASE let me know :) I need all the help I can get and that's basically why I made this blog.. To motivate myself to get off facebook! ha. And oh my gosh. I totally just found a site called forcedo.com It let's you make an online to-do list and you can set timers for when it HAS to be done so that you WILL get it done! And It's free! I'm totally gonna try that and then post how effective it is!! :)

Oh my girl you really hit home this time. I wonder the same things...it's sad how we waste our lives away. :/ We need to help each other though! and speaking of being productive..I'm going to go get some homework done..aka going down to the lobby because it's too distracting in my room w/everyone!
Have a fantab day!
